Shaheen's Sounds of Silence

As the saying goes, "If you ain't the lead dog the scenery never changes." Well Jeanne Shaheen knows this all too well. When it comes to energy her failed leadership abilities continue to be exposed.

Today's Union Leader editorialized about Shaheen's failure to lead when it comes to improving our energy security.

"We think Republicans would do better to go for the whole barrel of oil instead of one half-full. This bill settles for too little. But in supporting it, Sununu once again shows his willingness to find the middle ground on issues of critical importance. And as usual, as Sununu takes an early lead on a big issue, Jeanne Shaheen remains silent. She has yet to take a position on this bill."

Granted, normally when Shaheen acts people's taxes rise. So silence and inaction on this issue may actually be a good thing for the average American.

Tightening in Colorado

As people learn more about Boulder Liberal Mark Udall it is not surprising he lost his early lead in the Senate race. From flip-flopping on gun rights to breaking his promise to vote against taking a five-week vacation - instead missing the vote to attend a fundraiser.

Boulder Liberal Mark Udall has pulled a U-Turn on so many issues he is now seeing his polling take a U-Turn.

Secret Ballot = Fair Elections

Big Labor leaders have spent millions to elect Democrats. Now they want a return on their investment and Democrats are happy to pay-up.

Big Labor is making an unprecedented push to eliminate the secret ballot in elections -- claiming there would be less intimidation. Yet the American public is not buying it and neither is the editorial board at the Star Tribune.

Perhaps now that the biggest paper in Minnesota has exposed the hypocrisy of this terrible legislation, Al Franken (who has a history of worker neglect) will halt his pandering to Big Labor and their check books and look for ways to actually stand up for laborers.

Then again this is the candidate we are talking about.

Landrieu "An Anti-Gun Incumbent"

In Louisiana today, John Kennedy is getting some help from the NRA.  The Kennedy campaign is circulating an article in America's 1st Freedom Magazine saying that John Kennedy:

"has been a strong pro-gun voice in Louisiana and would be a consistent pro-gun supporter in the U.S. Senate."

About Landrieu, the magazine says:

"Senator Mary Landrieu, D, has not represented gun owners in the Sportsman's Paradise consistently on important firearm rights issues. She declined to sign a congressional amicus brief in support of individual Second Amendment rights in the Heller case and she voted to impose stiff federal regulations on gun shows."

It's especially interesting today, because Mary Landrieu is in Denver addressing the Democratic National Convention which will nominate anti-gun Barack Obama and Joe Biden -- a ticket The Hill today says to "gun owners, the party's over."

"By adding Sen. Joe Biden to the 2008 Democrat party ticket, gun rights activists believe Barack Obama is sending a clear message to the firearms community that they can forget about all the rhetoric of the past several months; gun owners aren't welcome and their rights really don't matter after all."

The people Mary Landrieu is campaigning on behalf of won't be friends to gun owners, but Mary's opponent John Kennedy is and will continue to be pro-gun.

Roberts Campaign: Slattery Says Missing Votes on Kansas Military, Education and Health Issues "Not Significant" To Kansas

Great press release out from Sen. Pat Roberts's campaign:

Slattery Says Missing Votes on Kansas Military, Education and Health Issues "Not Significant" to Kansans

TOPEKA, KS -- Highlighting his own absenteeism as a congressman and his lack of commitment to the concerns of Kansans while seeking personal political gain, Jim Slattery said the votes he missed votes on military, agriculture, education and health issues are not significant to Kansans.

In Monday's Winfield Daily Courier, Slattery acknowledged he missed more than half the votes in 1994 and said "none of those votes held major significance for Kansans." (http://winfieldcourier.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubSectionID=1&ArticleID=25736&TM=47408.94)

Slattery's attendance while he was campaigning for his gubernatorial race was so poor that he ranked 433 out of 435 members of Congress in attendance in the House of Representatives that year. As a result, he skipped votes on the military, school nutrition programs, farm programs and education programs.

When Will Then Be Now, Mark?

According to Andrew Halcro, Mark Begich had an interesting interview on the Huffington Post about increasing jobs in Alaska while reducing our dependence on foreign oil:

"On exploration and drilling [I'm] supportive, but carefully cautious about it, if that makes sense," Begich said. "I'm not just going to do it really willy-nilly. But we'll do it when the environment is right."

Andrew goes on to ask the next logical question, when will the environment be right for increased domestic oil production? How much higher does Begich want the price of gas to go before he, and his liberal allies in Congress act to reduce the burden on the general public?

One more question, does Mark Begich actually expect people to believe he will stand up to his liberal leadership if elected to Senate, and push for energy security?

Some tales are too tall, even for Alaska.
